How We Coach

Age-Appropriate Rugby, Built Around Enjoyment.

Activities are adapted to the age, experience and development stage of the children attending. Younger players focus on movement, handling, evasion, tag rugby and confidence-building games. Older groups use tackle bags, shields and other equipment for controlled, age-appropriate contact drills.

How camp days work

More Ball in Hand. More Game Time. More Confidence.

Our camp format has evolved by listening to the children who attend. The exact activities change from day to day, but the aim stays the same: keep them active, keep a rugby ball in their hands and give them plenty of chances to play, learn and grow in confidence.

Year 3 and above

Controlled Contact, Tier 1 Rugby & Skills

Older groups typically have two controlled-contact sessions each day — one in the morning and one in the afternoon — developing confidence both in making tackles and in being tackled, using tackle shields, bags and crash mats in a controlled environment rather than full-speed peer-on-peer tackling.

They also get game time in both halves of the day through Tier 1 rugby: small-sided touch and conditioned games designed to keep the ball moving and everybody involved. Technical blocks between those sessions can focus on passing, handling, movement, positioning and decision-making.

Ages 4–7 · Reception to Year 2

Rugbytots Worcestershire

Our youngest groups follow a fun-first, rugby-focused programme facilitated by Rugbytots Worcestershire and coaches experienced with this age group. Sessions can include evasion, ball skills, tag games and small-sided matches.

They also build confidence around physical play through light-hearted contact preparation — diving onto crash mats, driving through tackle shields and similar activities that feel more like extreme soft play than formal tackling.

The final day

The More Rugby Olympics

On the final day, the format takes a fun competitive twist. Two More Rugby Olympics sessions are blended into the usual rugby day, with coach-led small teams taking on passing, relay, try-scoring and kicking challenges — plus a few deliberately silly events. It keeps the rugby learning going while adding teamwork, new experiences and a memorable finish to camp.

Common Questions

What age groups are the camps for?

Camp age ranges vary by programme. Each live camp shows the ages and school years it is designed for.

Does my child need to be in a rugby club already?

No. Complete beginners are welcome alongside children who already play minis and juniors rugby at local clubs. Coaching is adapted to age, confidence and experience.

What activities are included?

Passing, handling, kicking, evasion, small-sided rugby, team challenges, decision-making and age-appropriate physical development.

Do the camps include contact rugby?

For Year 3 and above, camps can include controlled contact preparation using tackle shields, bags and crash mats. We do not use full-speed peer-on-peer tackling in games. Younger groups use playful contact preparation rather than formal tackling.

Are coaches qualified?

Sessions are led by trained rugby coaches with safeguarding and first-aid arrangements in place.

What should my child bring?

Comfortable sports kit, suitable footwear, a water bottle, packed lunch and weather-appropriate clothing. A gum shield is recommended for children in Year 3 and above who want to take part in controlled-contact sessions.

What if the weather is bad?

Camps are planned for outdoor rugby conditions. We contact booked families if exceptional weather requires a change.
